Numeracy
Numeracy is a powerful driver of improved outcomes in education, employment, financial capability and everyday problem-solving. Numeracy - the ability to understand, apply, and communicate mathematical thinking - is essential, because it underpins success across subjects and in real-world contexts. Without it, participation in learning, work, and daily life becomes significantly more challenging.
Importance of Numeracy
Given the fundamental importance of numeracy, at Sandringham College, we are committed to ensuring that all students build strong and secure mathematical knowledge and skills.
Year 7 students undertake an Acadience Mathematics screener, with ongoing progress monitoring throughout Years 7 and 8. Where students are identified as requiring additional support, further diagnostic assessment is conducted. Students who enter Year 7 below expected levels in numeracy may be supported through Corrective Maths, or other targeted interventions designed to build foundational understanding.
In all Year 7 and 8 Mathematics classes, students engage in regular, structured practice to develop math fact fluency, alongside explicit instruction in core mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies.
